Yacht Charter in Thailand

Thailand's Andaman Sea coastline and the islands of the Gulf of Thailand offer one of the most visually spectacular and culturally rich yacht charter experiences in Southeast Asia. From the iconic limestone karst landscapes of Phang Nga Bay and the Similan Islands marine national park to the vibrant beach life of Phuket and the quieter charms of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, Thailand provides a charter destination that combines extraordinary natural beauty with warm hospitality, outstanding food, and a wealth of cultural experiences that are unique to this remarkable country.

Phuket and the Andaman Sea

Phuket, Thailand's largest island, is the main charter base on the Andaman coast and the gateway to some of the finest sailing in Southeast Asia. The island itself has a well-developed yachting infrastructure, with several marinas and a large fleet of charter vessels. The sailing grounds to the north and east of Phuket include Phang Nga Bay — a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of limestone karst towers rising dramatically from green water, caves accessible by kayak, and a village built entirely on stilts above the sea. James Bond Island, familiar from the film The Man with the Golden Gun, has become one of Thailand's most visited tourist attractions and is best reached by yacht to avoid the day-trip crowds. The Similan Islands, a nine-island national park 80 kilometres northwest of Phuket, offer some of the finest diving in Asia.

The Phi Phi Islands

The Phi Phi Islands, south of Phuket, are among the most beautiful in Thailand: sheer limestone cliffs, turquoise lagoons, and white-sand beaches that became famous worldwide after featuring in the film The Beach. Phi Phi Don, the larger inhabited island, has a bustling village with restaurants and nightlife. Phi Phi Leh, the uninhabited twin island, contains the Pileh Lagoon — a near-circular lagoon enclosed by cliffs, its water a shade of emerald green that seems impossible in nature. The diving around the Phi Phi Islands is excellent, with encounters with leopard sharks, tuna, and sea turtles.

Koh Samui and the Gulf of Thailand

The islands of the Gulf of Thailand — Koh Samui, Koh Tao, and Koh Phangan — offer an alternative charter experience to the Andaman coast. Koh Samui, the largest, has a well-developed resort infrastructure, excellent restaurants, and beautiful palm-fringed beaches on its north coast. Koh Tao has become one of the world's most popular destinations for learning to scuba dive, with consistently excellent visibility and a resident population of whale sharks. Koh Phangan is famous for its Full Moon parties but also has quieter northern bays with excellent snorkelling and a peaceful, backpacker-friendly atmosphere.

Thai Cuisine and Culture

Thai food is one of the world's great cuisines, and the experience of eating freshly cooked Thai food on a yacht in a Thai bay is difficult to surpass. Tom yum soup, green curry, pad thai, mango sticky rice, and freshly grilled tiger prawns are the kind of dishes that make Thai cuisine one of the most beloved in the world. Thai culture is deeply influenced by Buddhism, and the temples (wats), monks, and religious ceremonies that permeate daily life add a dimension of cultural depth to any charter visit. The Thai people are known for their warmth and hospitality — the phrase mai pen rai (never mind, it will be fine) captures a philosophical attitude to life that makes Thailand a genuinely relaxing destination.
